Creation of 60 new jobs in Castlerea welcomed

The creation of 60 new jobs in Castlerea by Harmac Medical Products is a welcome boost to the area and the local economy, according to independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice.

It has been reported that the company’s expansion has been driven by the global demand for PPE as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is hoped the investment will accelerate the manufacturing of surgical masks and non-invasive ventilation products.

Commenting on today’s announcement, the representative for the Roscommon-Galway constituency said: “The creation of 60 new jobs at the facility will add to the 300 jobs already in place.

“This expansion will hopefully lead to improved economic growth in the area over the coming weeks and months, particularly after the difficult year everyone has experienced with Covid-19.

“Harmac Medical Products’ facility in Castlerea was established in 1998 and this expansion is yet another welcome development.

“It is thought that the company will be looking for employees in the areas of engineering, quality and manufacturing to fill the new posts.

“The IDA must be commended for supporting this expansion, and I hope that further businesses can be encouraged to grow and expand with the right supports in the coming months,” Fitzmaurice concluded.
