FITZMAURICE SEEKS ANSWERS ON PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL.

Michael Fitzmaurice TD has put down questions to the Minister for Health regarding the future of Portiuncula Hospital. Fitzmaurice says that he is fearful for the Hospital following information he has received that there is a threat to services there. Fitzmaurice says “there is a real danger that the A&E services at the Hospital could be downgraded – the people of Roscommon have already been duped and their A&E has closed down. We cannot allow downgrading of the A&E at Portiuncula because too many people are depending on it.
“It is vital that A&E at Portiuncula continues on a 24-hour basis. There is widespread concern that the hospital is under pressure and frontline staff at the hospital also feel that they are being put under fierce pressure as they try to cope.”
“I will be pressing the Minister and HSE officials to put the necessary funding and the required personnel in place to ensure that justice is done and the people of Roscommon and East Galway have access to a 24-hour A&E at Portiuncula.”
