Local Mental Health Services Remain In Crisis

By November 29, 2016No Comments

The situation with regard to Mental Health Services in Counties Roscommon and Galway has not improved and the HSE and the Minister have serious questions to answer and the situation must be addressed in a meaningful way without any more delays.

The Mental Health Services sector in Roscommon-Galway are still in crisis when you hear reports that professionals such as psychologists being withdrawn from the system because of a lack of funding. It has come to my attention in the last few days that two people have been moved from Knockroe House in Castlerea and I presume and hope that is a voluntary situation. The third person who was there has moved across to an independent living centre. I wonder do the HSE and the people who are running these services really know what is going on because it’s looks to me to be a total debacle. We seem to be limping from one crisis to another. I will be following up on this situation once again this week and I will have more information then.
It is amazing that our two biggest political parties Fine Gael and Fianna Fail, who are in Government and supporting the Government, are standing idly by and allowing this situation to continue. I will once again be pursuing this critical issue in the Dail again this week.
