There is more travel chaos ahead for motorists from Mayo, Roscommon and Galway on Sunday as the AA are reporting that the M6 motorway will be closed from Athlone to Moate eastbound and Tullamore to Moate westbound until Monday. I would question the timing of this work or whether it could have been undertaken on a weekend when there was not such a massive volume of traffic on the road to Dublin from the west. There was always a possibility that there would be at least two teams from the West playing in Dublin this weekend and now there are three. I would query is there any possibility that the works could be stalled and the motorway opened on Sunday to facilitate traffic from the West.
I know that the authorities say that the old Dublin Road will be in use on Sunday but people will remember the long tailbacks that used to happen on an almost daily basis on that road before the motorway was built and it will add to the chaos on Sunday as tens of thousands of people from the West travel to Croke Park
